Skid lid or crash helmet as it is better known is: a helmet used to protect the head in activities such being a motorcyclist or being a bicyclist. Helmets usually have plenty of soft lining for extra cushion. Manufacturers have their own idea of what they call a skid lid it is in the shorty section of the helmets offered.

There is an ongoing dispute going on as far as whether motorcyclists should be required to wear helmets. Some bikers say they should be able to pick whether or not they want to take the risk and wear helmets. Other bikers do no dispute this fact and would much rather have the extra protection for their heads in case of an accident. We only have the one brain to keep us thinking so we best make sure it stays in tact.

There are many types of what has been called skid lid as the definition goes anyway. There are such a huge array of designs including such helmets as the open face and full-face helmets. There the helmets that are for show only called the novelty helmets these are usually used when there is some kind of slow moving event such as parades are. There is also a group of helmets for the sport of Motocross that have special features designed for the sport.

The 1800's is when it is believed that the first helmets came into being for use by the bicyclists. These were riders of the high wheel bicycles. They were receiving head injuries, which made them find a solution. They took pith and made helmets. It was perhaps the most favorable material of the day even though pith did smash. With no cars zooming around back then though the bicycle riders only had to be protected from thumping on the ground when they fell. With the cars of today to be concerned it is a good thing helmets are made from other things.

What a blast to go for ride on a motorcycle. It is a blast for many different reasons depending on whom you talk to. But many many many bikers love to enjoy the open road and feel part of their environment. There is a great feeling of camaraderie amongst bikers. They loved to band together and go traveling around. Sometimes they even hold events for different organizations for charity. Of course you always have the ones that swear by their brand of bike and those groups will travel together too.

As expensive as cars are why not think about a motorcycle instead? They are a lot cheaper than cars to buy but not necessarily to maintain though. With the huge amount of money that we all have to spend on gas motorcycles are quite thrifty in this area. If the prices at the gas pumps keep going to such heights maybe all of us should ride motorcycles.

The real daredevils of the motorcycle world love to do motocross. These daredevils are smart enough to know they have to be outfitted right which includes a motocross helmet or skid lid specially designed for the sport. On motocross you even have ramps that you travel on and sometimes jump and flip with. Yes I would say motocross riders absolutely positively should wear a helmet.

It is always the smart thing to do to wear your helmet to act as a shield to your head. No matter what you name them either helmet or skid lid they come is so many kinds and with different features. Most of all slip the helmet on and take off down the road.
