Every time you miss a payment or pay your credit card bill late, something is happening to your credit score. You're not just incurring late fees and more interest, but damaging your score. If you keep missing payments, your interest rate will increase, making the amount you owe grow at a much faster pace. Even the minimum payment on your card could become more than you can handle. When that happens, you can say goodbye to your credit score.

The best thing to do is take control right away. Even though it may not be easy and circumstance may try to prevent it, you should make sure you never miss a payment and your payments always arrive on time, before or on the due date. The following tips will provide you with guidance on making your credit card payments on time, every time.

As stated above, you should always pay your bill on time. If something comes up and you aren't able to pay, you'll be penalized. Even though you may think what has come up will justify a late payment, it doesn't justify the means in the eyes of your credit card company. Inside of your bill, you'll find detailed instructions regarding payment. You should always follow them as accurately as possible, pay where and when you are supposed to pay - and do it on time.

If you simply aren't able to pay your entire bill, you shouldn't worry about it - but instead pay the minimum amount possible. Even though you may be able to pay more later, you should always pay at least the minimum amount. Then, when you have more money, you can always add to your minimum payment by sending in an additional payment.

A good plan of action is to always have your minimum payment kept ready and set to the side. In the future try to pay more than just minimum balance. When paying the minimum amount, you will ensure yourself of having no other fees will be added to the next bill.

Talk to your credit card company and find out if they offer a "skip a payment" option. Some companies provide this kind of security net once a year. It lets you skip one payment when problems come up, but it's only available once per year. Because you can only skip one payment, make sure you only use this option when you absolutely need to. Pay attention to costs - this kind of service isn't normally free. Make sure you need to use it before you apply for a waiver.

Credit cards make our lives easier and safer for the most part. It prevents us from having to carry cash with us and helps us when we do not have cash on us. However, many people choose to use their credit cards for items, even when they know they will not be able to afford the payments. Once the bill arrives, they find they regret their decision, but still do not have the ability to make the payment.

Anytime you have a credit card, you should always make sure that you have the money to pay the bill, or the minimum amount, the minute it arrives. This way, you'll remain in good standing with your company and your credit score will continue to increase. If you simply aren't able to make your payment, you should contact your credit card issuer immediately and see if you can work something out.
