If you've had financial problems in the past and have been banned from having a checking account, you may be able to have a second chance at one. In fact, these types of accounts are called "second chance" checking accounts. If you've been reported to TeleCheck or ChexSystems, you are indeed banned from having a regular checking account. However, second chance checking account can get you back up and running and into a regular checking account at some point once again.

In most cases, the information that got you reported to TeleCheck or ChexSystems will stay in the system for about five years or even more. However, second chance checking accounts let you reestablish yourself as a financially responsible person even though it may be impossible to open a regular one.

Banks have begun to realize that there are many customers in this boat who are ready to reestablish themselves as financially responsible once again and yet who are barred from opening regular checking accounts. Therefore, many have specifically set up second chance checking accounts to give people a true chance for a fresh start.

If you're in the market for a second chance checking account, take a look around at your local banks and see if any of them offer one. You should also check and make sure what type of fee, if any, they charge to do so. Many will charge up to $300 to approve this type of checking account. With competition growing, it's likely that you can get one for less than that, but again, check around to see what your area offers.

Despite these fees, a second chance checking account offers all of the same benefits of a regular checking account. There will be an account number and routing number so you can use direct deposit. You can generally also receive a MasterCard or Visa debit card which you can use at ATMs as well.

If all you really need is the debit card, then you can open a second chance checking account where there will be a voided check as part of the setup. You'll still be able to have a routing number of direct deposit, but you will not need to be verified via TeleCheck or ChexSystems. This is areal debit card, not a pre-paid card as you may have been told.

Paying all of your bills can be a real hassle. A second chance checking account will give you the ability to pay your bills by automatic deduction, by check or even online! Banks are starting to understand that there are a lot of people out there who could use a second chance. After all, many of us don't really all of the responsibilities involved with having a checking account when we first open one. And of course, a lot of us are unaware of how many difficulties that not having a checking account can create.

If you don't have a checking account, you can't bank online ? and a lot of employers only pay by direct deposit; meaning that a checking account is essential. You could open a savings account and have your paycheck deposited there, but you will still have to go withdraw money or get money orders to pay bills.

If second chance checking is something which you could use, you have a growing number of options, with more banks offering this option all the time. There are a lot of people out there who could use a second chance; if you're one of them, there's no time like the present to take advantage of this opportunity.
