We recently moved and found our dream home. It's a stunning detached two-storey chateau style building having huge gardens and everything else we could wish for. We've always liked France, the way of life and their unique houses, so finding a house like this in the UK was simply ideal.

We decided to buy new furniture for each room and plumped for, you've guessed, French style tables, chairs, sofas, bedroom stuff and most importantly for me, a fantastic Parisian styled kitchen. Before signing the final documents for this new house, we did plenty of research and looked at different kinds of houses. Bungalows were a bit too ordinary, semi detached just not us and apartments were completely out of the question.

We soon moved in and the furniture was delivered. We chose neutral colours for the bedroom with the furniture being romantic and relaxing. I just love our upholstered bed and decided to pile it high with beautifully embroidered cushions. We also installed soft lighting in the form of roman glass lamps, as well as an ornate cheval mirror. This matched up with the hand-painted wardrobe and its filigree design, coupled with a dressing table.

There was only one type of furniture I was going to choose for the dining room and that was French country style. We bought a French oval-shaped dining table with magnificent carved leg chairs. I like the shabby chic look which is classical at the same time. We also plumped for a distressed hand-finished, tall wire fronted cabinet, fantastic to place my bone china in.

I've always thought the lounge is the most important room in the home so we spent plenty of time deliberating what type of furniture and accessories to buy. We finally chose a contemporary combination, leather sofas with chrome bubble lights and vintage style chandelier. We all love this room especially when the French windows are open, simply divine.

We couldn't resist buying a divine ornate iron bench to put in the garden under the shade of the trees. I've always loved gardening so decided to plant lavender bushes there, adding a touch of France to the outdoors. The delicate perfume is gorgeous especially when the bushes are in full bloom. I also usually dry the plants to make into pot pourri which I have in jars scattered around the house.

Returning to the exciting furniture, the hallway has a black and white ceramic tiled floor which is ideal for the French look. We found a fabulous French bureau made from weathered natural oak. It's simply a work of art, eye-catching and a magnificent piece of furniture.

Our daughter simply loves her bedroom too. She helped to choose the gorgeous hand-carved and painted dressing table. Her bed has a wonderful cream lace canopy which is a stunning centrepiece of the room. I researched French furniture on the internet, so our choices were made easier. We purchased the fabulous furniture from a fantastic company on-line which I would thoroughly recommend.
