Glasgow has appeared in some of the world's top travel guides as a must visit destination and more and more people are discovering why. It might not jump out at you as a good city break destination but once you discover what Glasgow has to offer you will find out why. The largest city in Scotland and one with a history dating back to the stone age and Celtic Druids visits by the Romans including a Roman Fort. The first Christian church was founded in the 6th century and around 500 years later work began on Glasgow's first cathedral. An important trading centre since the 16th century, which evolved in to the major shopping centre Glasgow is today. Today Glasgow is a major shopping destination with the best range of shops and shopping facilities in the UK after London. So if you want to shop until you drop then Glasgow has all shops you could ever need and more. Glasgow has many attractions and fantastic nightlife as well, so no matter what you are looking for you will find it here. Throughout the year there are various festivals including the West End Festival, the Celtic Connections Festival, The International Comedy Festival, Mechant City Festival, Glasgay the UK's largest gay and lesbian festival, the Jazz Festival and more. These festivals generally run every year and each year get larger and larger. Visiting Glasgow is easy and can be very cheap especially if you can get one of the cheap fares with one of the many low cost airlines flying into Glasgow. There are two rail stations in the centre of the city as well as a coach station all with regular services from England and the north of Scotland. There are daily departures from all four of the London airports to Glasgow International. Glasgow has a great selection of accommodation suitable for everyone from great value youth hostels, bed and breakfast guest houses, apartments and two to five star hotels. There are lots of different options and you can enjoy Glasgow what ever your budget is. Glasgow can experience different climates all in the one day but this will not detract from your enjoyment as there is lots to do regardless of the weather conditions. Despite what you may believe it can get very warm in Glasgow during the Summer months Some of the best attractions include the fantastic Kelvingrove Art Gallery, probably the busiest gallery in the UK after the Tait Gallery in London. The Science Centre in Glasgow is an excellent attraction and well worth a visit, there is also the Glasgow Tower and Imax theatre all located at the Science Mall next to the River Clyde. Loch Lomond and the Highlands can be reached easily from Glasgow as can Stirling, Edinburgh and Ayrshire. If you wish to see more of the surrounding areas it is advisable to rent a car. So what ever you are looking for Glasgow has it all from shopping, amazing nightlife, restaurants, pubs, attractions and much more. Visit Glasgow before it is no longer a discovery.
